Why we have an editorial policy

This site gives information about the law and about health. Getting either wrong can cost someone their home or their money, so we hold every page to the rules below.

Sources

Primary sources only. Every legal or clinical claim is checked against the primary source: legislation.gov.uk for Acts and regulations, GOV.UK, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the Civil Aviation Authority, the BMA, and the organisations and carriers whose own policies we describe.
Search finds, sources prove. We use search tools to find sources. A search result or summary is never the evidence. We read the source itself.
One fact base. Each verified claim is recorded once, with its source and the date it was read, and every page draws from that record. When a source changes, we change the record and every page that uses it.
Sources on the page. Every page lists the sources behind it and the date they were checked.

How we write

We do not overstate. Where official guidance says an adjustment “may” be reasonable, we say “may”.
We say where a rule stops: which nations, which tenancies, which dates.
We describe registration sites as a category and do not name them.
We use tools, including AI tools, to help draft and check pages. Every claim is verified against its primary source, and every page is reviewed by a person before it is published.

Review dates

We re-check the Renters’ Rights Act commencement, Scottish commencement and airline and rail policies every quarter, because they change. Everything else is re-checked at least once a year, or sooner if the source changes.

Clinical review

A page shows a doctor’s name as reviewer only after that doctor has actually reviewed and signed it off, and the date shown is the real sign-off date. We never backdate a review.
